Wildfarmed is our flour supplier, but they are far more than that. When we started making our own sourdough bread in 2021 we were determined to find the best flour out there, but not just flour that tastes great, a product that fixes our broken food system and that helps to return us to healthy soil, planet & people. That’s when we found Wildfarmed. They are on a mission to change farming, and we are thrilled to be part of that by baking delicious sourdough, pastries, cakes and bakes at our bakery in Sheffield.

“Wildfarmed flour fixes the planet, because we farm differently. By putting soil health first, and paying farmers properly, we are able to grow tasty, highly nutritious food, in a way that heals the planet. All of our products are grown without the use of chemicals, in a system that prioritises soil health, increasing soil biodiversity, drawing carbon from the atmosphere and producing nutrient dense food. Our pasture cropping method originally developed by Andy and now being adapted and refined by the growers in our community, allows arable crops to be grown alongside perennial plants. If we can get grasses, trees, perennial plants of all kinds back into the “fields of single crops” that cover two thirds of the country, we can make agriculture a solution to our biodiversity and climate crises rather than a contributor.

When we started farming 15 years ago we saw bare fields. Soil and nitrates cascading into the rivers when it rains. Pesticides and herbicides attacking what remains of soil and insect life. The U.K. has now lost half of its pre-industrial biodiversity and is in the bottom 10% of countries worldwide. A sorry state, but also one of huge potential.

Our thinking was that unless we create a market for farmers that rewards quality rather than quantity - quality of their crops, soils and ecosystems - change will be limited.
