Best made, by and for people who care
Our mission is to create a better all-day dining experience, built around design-led spaces, best-in-class produce, particularly our handmade sourdough and speciality coffee, passionate, knowledgeable staff and a sustainable approach that empowers people and helps the planet.
We believe the UK deserves a better cafe culture, so Marmadukes is on a mission to create a new all-day dining experience. Born in the north and shaped by Sheffield, our three sites look and feel different. But they are built around the same principles.
Who we are, and how Marmadukes began
We opened our doors in August 2012 on Norfolk Row in the heart of Sheffield. Husband and Wife team Clare & Tim Nye, hailing from Bakewell in the nearby Peak District, decided that Sheffield was the perfect place to start the Marmadukes journey. Tim had just retired from Derbyshire Police, and their four children had flown the nest, so it was the time to turn Clare’s vision into reality! Over the past ten years and our expansions, Marmadukes has remained a family owned and run business, with three out of four children now helping to run our three cafes, sourdough bakery, and pastry kitchen. We’ve welcomed many wonderful people into the Marms family over the years, all of whom have helped to make the business what it is today.
Design
Stepping into Marmadukes feels special. From the cosy nooks of Norfolk Row, to the chic modernism of Cambridge Street and the unique energy and in-house bakery of The Sorting Office, each site is packed with personality. In extraordinary architectural spaces where every detail is considered, every customer has a carefully curated experience from the moment they walk in the door. Marmadukes’ founder and owner Clare is an interior designer as well as a foodie!
Produce
Best-in-class produce is at the heart of the Marmadukes experience, from speciality coffee to handcrafted sourdough. We obsess over each ingredient, and everything we serve is painstakingly chosen, sustainably sourced and beautifully presented. Like the best restaurants we craft our menus with care, creativity and attention to detail. Through consistent excellence and innovative combinations, we elevate what casual all-day dining can be. Sustainability
As a business, we’re determined to leave a positive impact on the planet. Every decision is made with this in mind. So our bakery uses Wildfarmed flour, designed to shape a better future through regenerative farming. But it doesn’t stop there – everything from our coffee beans to our cleaning products are chosen to minimise our environmental footprint. Read more here.
