Welcome to our event guide, which will tell you everything you need to know about registering, getting sponsorship and what to do on the day of the walk! The walk will be raising money for Lane End Farm Trust and for their Down to Earth project.

About Lane End Farm Trust

Lane End Farm is a working hill farm situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty in the middle of the Peak District National Park. They provide a simple environment where disabled and disadvantaged young people can be at one with nature and connect with their beautiful surroundings and our animals. 

Lane End Farm caters for young adults from all walks of life; inner city, deprived, abused, neglected, disabled (both mentally and physically), or with learning difficulties and behavioural problems.

About Down to Earth

Marmadukes Cafe Deli is beginning the exciting partnership 'Down to Earth' with Lane End Farm by using their gorgeous produce from their vegetable plot and their happy, free range animals. This is a unique opportunity for disadvantaged & disabled young people from Sheffield to use their skills on the farm and return it to Sheffield to be served in Marmadukes.

We're setting the sponsorship target at £50 for each walker but we think you can surpass this aim!

Location and Transport

Start Address - Lane End Farm, Abney, Hathersage, Hope Valley, Derbyshire, S32 1AH

Finish Address - Marmadukes Cafe Deli, 22 Norfolk Row, Sheffield, S1 2PA

If you are travelling from Sheffield you need to get the 9:20 train from Sheffield to Hathersage which arrives at 9:38. We can provide seats on a minibus from Hathersage Train Station to Lane End Farm at 9:45. If you need a seat let us know via email ( or phone 07807006710.

As this is not a circular route, we ask all the participants to organise transport home from Sheffield. You are welcome to leave a car at Lane End Farm and make your way back to the farm. There will also be a limited number of seats in the minibus from Sheffield back to Lane End Farm, let us know if you will require a seat as soon as you can via the email and phone number above. 

On the Day

Event Date: Sunday 21st September

Event Starting Time: 9:30am

Please arrive for 9:30am - the 'chilled' walkers will be setting off at 10am, and the 'intense' walkers at 11am

Event Finish Time: 5pm

Please register your arrival at the walk by signing in at Lane End Farm. There will be toilets and a place to fill water bottles at the farm.

  • Snacks to keep your energy up along the route

On the Walk

Approx 12 miles

The difficulty of the walk is moderate. A good deal of the walk will be over moors.

There will be 2 separate groups of walkers; chilled and intense - you will be asked to provide your fitness level in your registration. The groups will set off at 2 different times so we all get to the finish point around the same time. 

Each walking group will be lead by a group leader, who will have detailed directions and first aid training.

You are welcome to bring dogs provided that they are good with people, other dogs and horses.
